About Us
Palouse HfH is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.
- Through volunteer labor, and donations of money and materials locally, Habitat volunteers build simple, decent, energy efficient houses along with the homeowner (partner) families.
- Habitat is not a giveaway program. Partner families must meet income qualifying guidelines of 30-60% of the county median income, along with and urgent need for safer and more adequate housing.
- In addition to paying closing costs and the monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor - sweat equity - into building thie houses and those of others.
- On completion of construction, the partner family buys its house at cost, with a 0% interest mortgage held by Palouse HfH. The mortgage payments help build the next house.
